The couple’s confusion
James and Emily are both Caucasian. Normally, there is no way that a dark-skinned child would be born. However, one of the babies in front of us was definitely dark-skinned. Since it had just been born, there was no way in the world that it could have been mistaken for a baby from another family due to a hospital error. The doctors and nurses were astonished and exclaimed. The delivery room was filled with a heavy silence. Then James remembered a story and felt his blood run cold.
