Egg Change

The black eggs finally underwent a change that was inescapable. Numerous fine cracks ran across the surface, from which fluid with a distinctive animal odor began to seep out. It was far from the chirping of a bird, but a foreign sound that aroused the instinctive alertness of the listener. What in the world is trying to break through this thick shell and crawl out from inside?
